Mineral Analysis and Identification

DMR has already established itself as a reliable and professional scientific laboratory in Thailand in the Bureau of Mineral Resources Analysis and Identification (BMRAI). BMRAI has three scientific laboratories and a technical development and promotion group. Analytical and identification work is performed by more than 45 professional scientists, and the remainder of the staff are responsible for research assistantship and administration work.

Main mission
  • Provide physical and chemical analytical service including identification, inspection and evaluation of full range of geological material.
  • Develop analytical technology in order to improve the efficiency of analytical procedure.
  • Promote and support related research, development and environment projects as well as analytical technology to encourage and improve the use of natural resources.

Raman spectrometer is one of our advanced instruments, used for gems and minerals identification rapidly without destroying samples.

Service Groups
  • Gems and Geological Material Identification Group
  • Rock and Mineral Resource Analysis Group
  • Geochemical Analysis Group
  • Technical Development and Promotion Group
Service
  • Provision of geological material identification, the assay, chemical analytical and geochemical analysis services for DMR and other government agencies, research and education institutes, mining industrial agencies and the private sector. Provision of advice and training on rock, mineral and geological material analysis and identification.
Gems and Geological Material Identification Group

This group is responsible for the analysis and identification of geological materials in order to define name, composition, quality and origin of samples such as gems, minerals, rocks, soil and other earth materials by using physical analysis (mostly physical properties of the samples). The results are applied to geological evidence for geological mapping, ore deposit environment, mining, gems certificates, gem quality standard in order to support the mineral and gem industry and protect customers and dealers in the industry.

The group is also active in research in various fields of mineralogy, clay minerals, gemology and petrology as well as providing technical consulting, general practical training, and advanced instrument workshops.

Rock and Mineral Resource Analysis Group

This group is responsible for the quantitative analysis of geological material including rock, soil, sand and mineral samples. The standard and modified methods which specify for each sample are used for determining their chemical compositions. The analytical results are applied to geological investigation and mineral exploration which will be beneficial to the mineral resources management.

X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer

Technical Development and Promotion Group

This group is responsible for doing research study concerning the development and improvement of chemical and physical laboratory techniques in order to apply the new technology to improve the efficiency of analytical methods for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of mineral resources which will be useful and necessary for the mineral resources management.

Geochemical Analysis Group

This section is responsible for the geochemical analysis of rock, soil, stream sediments and vegetation. The accurate concentration of elements, such as Cu, Pb, Zn, Sb, Ni, Cr, Co, As, Sn, W, Mo, P, Mn, U, Cd, Ag, and Au will be carried out in ppm or ppb. The data will be used geochemically to locate the mineral deposits and specify the mineral high potential areas. It will also be used for the study of the impact of mining and geohazard on the environment.
