The Fossil Preservation Division has the following responsibilities:
  1. Propose policies, plans, and measures related to preservation of paleontological sites and fossils, specify paleontological standards, as well as collect and store index fossils
  2. Regulate, administer, and supervise preservation of fossils and management of paleontological sites according to the fossil preservation laws and other related legislations
  3. Coordinate with or support other agencies that are related or assigned

The Division is divided into 1 unit and 3 sections as follows:

(1) The General Administration Unit has the following responsibilities:

  1. Carry out work related to administration, correspondence, finance, accounting, supplies, personnel, and planning for the Division
  2. Coordinate with governmental sectors not held responsible directly by other Sections
  3. Collaborate with or support other offices that are relevant or assigned

(2) The Fossil Preservation Management Section has the following responsibilities:

  1. Propose policies, plans, and procedures related to preservation of paleontological sites and fossils
  2. Function as the secretary of and support the operation of the Fossil Preservation Committee, the Fossil Management Fund Administrative Committee, Subcommittees, and other working teams related to the Fossil Conservation Act and other relevant legislations
  3. Develop and improve the mechanisms and systems related to preservation and management of fossils
  4. Collaborate with or support other offices that are relevant or assigned

(3) The Paleontological Data and Standards Section has the following responsibilities:

  1. Develop and improve technical standards on fossils, as well as develop and improve systems for collection, storage, and preservation of index fossils at the national level
  2. Develop, import, and store data in the National Fossil Database System
  3. Publicize and offer technical information services on conservation and management of paleontological sites and fossils
  4. Collaborate with or support other offices that are relevant or assigned

(4) The Fossil Conservation and Management Section has the following responsibilities:

  1. Regulate, administer, and supervise preservation of fossils and management of paleontological sites according to the fossil preservation laws and other related legislations
  2. Regulate the registration of fossils and paleontological sites as well as proclaim paleontological investigation and research zones
  3. Collaborate with or support other offices that are relevant or assigned
